WHO: Incoming 9th through 12th grade students
WHEN: July 31 – August 11, 2017
WHERE: Syracuse Stage
820 E. Genesee St.
WHAT: Two-week summer intensive theatre devising program designed to involve students in all aspects of creating an original production - including directing, acting, and technical theatre. Working with Syracuse Stage professional theatre artists, students will design and devise an original theatre piece that explores and addresses contemporary topics that are of interest to young people.
Devised theatre is a relatively new form of theatre gaining popularity all over the world. A script or story originates not from a playwright, but from collaborative improvisational work by a group of performers. This is similar to commedia dell'arte and street theatre such as busking.
How to Apply: Contact Kate Laissle at firstname.lastname@example.org for an audition appointment. Students interested in acting and/or directing should prepare a one-minute monologue. Those interested in technical theatre should bring samples of their work: photos, paintings, drawings, costumes.
Details: Cost is $500.
Full day, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., lunch not included.
Need-based scholarships will be available.
Individual funding is available through the John A. DeFrancisco Young Artist Scholarship Program, which is administered by CNY Arts, a regional arts council that provides grants and scholarship support for artists, nonprofits, and students.
