Word to the World – Young Playwrights for Change

National Playwriting competition for students grades 6 – 8

Regional host: Syracuse Stage, accepting two entries per school for consideration in national contest.
Plays should address the theme of Anti-Bullying and should be 10 minutes.

Important Dates:

  • Submission deadline: November 4
  • Revision workshops: November 19 and December 10 at Syracuse Stage
  • Final play revisions due December 23
  • Syracuse Stage regional winner announced on January 6, 2017


Winning play submitted for consideration in the national competition and performed in April as part of Syracuse Stage’s
annual Young Playwrights Festival for high school students.

The national winner will receive a free trip to San Francisco for themselves and one parent, where their play will be read at the One Theatre World conference.
