A Virtual Children's Tour 2021:

School is out for the summer, the weather is hot and the boredom is heavy. But 8-year-old Sheila and her pack of pals aren’t going to let the summer heat wear them down. When their fantastical junkyard fort draws the attention of a walking, talking, surprisingly well-dressed coyote, the adventurers suddenly find themselves deep in the desert, facing The Council of Howls, The Sting Brigade, The Death Cactus and much more. It's a whirlwind adventure about how we affect the environment and the animals with whom we share the planet, and how we take on the mission of saving the world from ourselves. A unique twist on traditional storytelling, where a bit of moonlight brings a menagerie of found objects to life, this original play shows the power of memory and imagination and will captivate and inspire audiences of all ages.

Available now through June 30, 2021

Virtual performances of Danny, King of the Basement are available for a 48-hour time frame of your choosing through May 30, 2021, to any educational initiative including, public and private schools, homeschooling groups, and libraries.

Content including housing insecurity, parental separation, and financial difficulties inspire great family discussion, but may be challenging concepts for children under seven. The provided study guide can help parents facilitate conversations about the show with children.

Danny, King of the Basement tells the story of 10-year-old Danny "Delco" Carter. Danny is the "king of moving." In two years, he and his mother, who is dealing with unemployment, have moved more times than most kids lose teeth. But far from being overcome by his homelessness, Danny appears to be thriving. When Danny moves into a basement apartment on upscale Clinton Street, the kids he meets have more material things, but they seem to have bigger problems than just being hungry.

This heartwarming story about a boy who creates an imaginary world to deal with the instability and hardship of his daily life is a powerful, yet playful, production that truthfully explores issues related to child poverty and homelessness and ultimately demonstrates how the power of friendship can change lives.

Captivate your students’ imagination by inviting Danny and the Bank of America Children’s Tour into your learning space for a virtual performance. Recommended for grades 2 through 5. Classroom study guides are provided prior to each performance to enhance student learning and include an in depth video program to help students build resiliency in their own lives.
